The Challenge

A coastal San Clemente lot with real grade change: a stone retaining wall along the rear line, slope setbacks, and coastal permitting that all had to clear before layout could lock. This family lives outdoors in the evening, so the design also had to carry the backyard after sunset — water, lighting, and gathering spaces tuned for twilight rather than a daylight-only pool.

The Solution

We set the raised spa into the stone retaining wall so the sheer-descent waterfalls spill straight from the rock into the pool — one structure doing the work of two — and built the evening half of the yard around it. A covered dining pergola with pendant lights sits beside the water, a stone fire pit lounge with a built-in TV wall anchors the far corner, and bistro lights and LED pool lighting are tuned so the whole backyard reads warm at dusk. Delivered on time and on budget.
