Design-Build Pool Construction

Custom Pool Builder in Orange County

Every Coastline pool starts as a blank sheet and a walkthrough of your actual yard — not a template. As a design-build firm led by Ryan Bird, we take Orange County homeowners from 3D design and engineering through permits, excavation, and plaster with one crew and one point of contact, which is how we've earned 100+ reviews across Newport Beach, Irvine, and the rest of Orange County.

The Coastline Standard

  • In-house design with 3D renderings of your actual yard
  • Gunite construction with premium finishes — PebbleTec, glass tile
  • CSLB License #1082075 · 98th Percentile among California contractors
  • One crew and one point of contact from dig to final walkthrough

Why Orange County Homeowners Choose Design-Build

Most pool companies sell you a design, then hand the project to whoever digs the hole. Coastline is design-build: the same team that walks your yard and draws the 3D render also pulls the permit, runs the crew, and hands you the keys. With 100+ reviews across Orange County, that continuity is why our builds finish on schedule and on budget.

It also means one accountable point of contact. Ryan Bird personally reviews every project, and clients reach him — not a rotating cast of project managers — throughout the build.

What the Design Process Actually Looks Like

  • Site walkthrough — we measure your actual yard, grade, access, and views, not a satellite image
  • 3D design — you see the finished pool from your kitchen window before we dig
  • Engineering & permits — structural, soils, and city submittals handled in-house
  • Construction — one Coastline crew, start to finish
  • Startup & walkthrough — equipment training, water chemistry, and a handoff you can call anytime

From First Call to First Swim

  • Design & 3D render — typically 2–4 weeks, including a revision round on your actual yard
  • Engineering & permits — 2–6 weeks depending on your city and HOA review
  • Construction — 8–12 weeks from excavation to first swim on most Orange County lots
  • Startup & walkthrough — equipment training, water chemistry, and a handoff you can call anytime

Our Construction Standards

Every Coastline pool is gunite — not fiberglass, not vinyl — with a steel-reinforced shell engineered for Southern California soils, premium interior finishes like PebbleTec, glass tile waterlines, and variable-speed equipment sized for your actual usage. We build pools we'd put in our own backyards, and we build them one at a time: your project is our project until it's done.

What a Custom Pool Costs in Orange County

Price follows size, access and finishes far more than shape. These are the ranges we publish in our pool cost guide, and they're what most Orange County homeowners should plan around before the site walkthrough narrows it down:

  • Compact or cocktail pool — $60,000–$80,000, still full gunite construction
  • Standard custom pool — $85,000–$120,000, the most common range for a complete build
  • Luxury or estate pool — $150,000+, with larger shells, premium finishes and integrated features
  • Raised spillover spa — add $15,000–$35,000
  • Permits and engineering — typically $2,000–$5,000 and $2,000–$6,000 respectively on a standard lot
“I came into the project with only a vague idea: I wanted a hole in the ground with water. Ryan took that simple vision and turned it into something far beyond what I could have ever imagined. … Two years later, I texted Ryan on a Sunday night about a warranty issue with the pool equipment. By the next day, someone was at my home with the replacement part, handling it without hesitation.”

“Our pool came out even more beautiful than what we had imagined. … We had a unique waterfall design in mind and it took some time to source it but they found one for us that was perfect - even better than the inspirational pic from Pinterest.”

Custom Pool Builder FAQs

One company designs the pool, engineers it, pulls the permits and builds it. You don't hand a designer's plans to a separate contractor and hope the two agree — the people who drew the 3D render are the ones accountable for building it.

Most custom gunite pools land between $60,000 and $120,000, with luxury and estate builds starting around $150,000. A raised spillover spa adds $15,000–$35,000. The site walkthrough is where your yard's access, grade and soil narrow that range.

About two to four weeks of design, two to six weeks for engineering and permits, and eight to twelve weeks of construction once permits are issued. HOA review, when it applies, runs alongside the city permit.

No. Every Coastline pool is gunite with a steel-reinforced shell, which is what makes a fully custom shape, depth and feature set possible on Orange County lots.
